Paper of the Month Subscriptions Are Live!

Update: This subscription is no longer available.

Many of you may know that I have a shop on this site that sells sample packs of fountain-pen-friendly paper. As a fountain pen user, this is something that I originally wanted for myself but wasn’t able to find, so I created it. Now I’m back with another item that no one else seems to offer, but I think many people will want. What is it? A Paper of the Month subscription service!

Paper of the Month Details

As you might expect from a subscription service, you’ll receive a new batch of paper at the beginning of each month. Each shipment will include two different paper samples, with each sample consisting of 3 sheets of paper. Some months may include one sample of writing or notebook paper and one other type of paper sample, such as an envelope or index cards.

I know that many people who may be interested in this have already purchased The Big Sample Pack, which includes many easier-to-find paper samples. Because of this, I won’t be including any papers from the Big Sample Pack in the subscription. All of the monthly paper samples will be papers and notebooks that are not as common. Don’t worry about them being impossible to find, though, as I’ll include information with each shipment as to where you can purchase them if you love them.

So what’s it going to cost? I’m happy to say it only costs a little more than an ink sample. The monthly subscription price is just $4, and that includes shipping! At this time, subscriptions are only available to addresses in the United States. I am considering doing a quarterly subscription service that will be available worldwide. If this is something that might interest you, please contact me or let me know in the comments.

The First Month – August 2021

I’m sure you’re all curious as to what the first month is going to include. I just picked up one of the new Leuchtturm 120gsm notebooks and that will be the notebook sample paper. While I haven’t posted a review, I can tell you that it is great paper and I’m very happy with how it handles fountain pens. For the writing paper, I’m including a sample of Crown Mill Laid Writing Paper, which is very nice paper for letter writing.

  1. This is most certainly something I would be interested in. I live in Vancouver, on the west coast of Canada.

Good to know, David. I’ll probably reevaluate after a few months of domestic shipping to see how it works out and then put the word out if I come up with an international option.

  2. Yes, love idea of international paper subs provided postage isn’t huge – I would love to order your existing sample packs but the first class postage to the UK is almost as much as the cost of the pack. Are there any alternatives to first class?

I’m not sure what shipping would cost, but I imagine it would be slightly less than the paper sample packs. I am currently using the least expensive shipping option, which I realize is still expensive compared to the cost of the sample packs. Unfortunately, that’s just what it costs. I imagine the quarterly packs would cost less because they wouldn’t weigh as much.

  3. Hello, I am interested in the monthly paper subscription. I would also find that a month ink subscription would be amazing also!

Please let me know how I can sign up for the paper subscription I am located in Arizona.

    Thanks,
    Tia

  5. I received the first set of sample pages… And this subscription is Fantastic! And I now have a good reason to keep several pens inked up (right now eight) — I try each pen on each of the papers. This gives me real insight into how the paper is working – with what specific pens and inks! Already it’s clear how different the papers are depending on pens/inks. For example, I hate how R&S Bishop to King looks on the Leuchtturm1917 120gsm paper, but it dries into a wonderful color on the Crown Mill Classic Laid. Without the subscription, I never would have known that without buying an entire pad/book of each. (Yes, I know; Triple negative.)

Thanks for offering this great service/subscription!

I’m so glad to hear you like it! It really is interesting using the same pens on different papers and seeing how they perform differently. Hope the future months bring you more interesting results!
